Semi-tempered glass (heat-enhanced glass) is made by the similar process of tempered glass that is heating glass to its softening point and being rapidly and homogeneously cooled. In the cooling process, due to smaller wind pressure, it is cooled more slowly than tempered glass. Hence, semi-tempered glass has relatively few temperature differences between its middle and surface layers, density differences and stress values.Features:1. Strength:The strength of semi-tempered glass is about half of that of tempered glass with the same thickness and 1.5 times of that of ordinary glass.2. Heat shock resistance:Although it is featured of weaker heat shock resistance than tempered glass, semi-tempered glass can still bear the temperature changing from 130℃-170℃, and keep the same under strong heat shock.3. Remaining stress:When semi-tempered glass is broken, its special stress structure still enables the cullet to remain in the frame and to possess certain remaining stress. It can still resist the second shock to some extent. That’s why semi-tempered glass is always used as an underneath substrate of laminated glass in glass ceiling.4. Different from tempered glass, semi-tempered glass never explodes by itself.
